From Atlanta:
Take I-20 east to exit 114. Turn left and cross over I-20. Continue north on this 4 lane road, past the 441 Bypass at first signal (Lowe's/Starbucks/Chick Fillet are on your left) and on towards downtown Madison. You are now on South Main Street. It will make a 45 degree right hand bend in about 1/2 mile. Continue past "Hill Park" on the right, then turn left onto Walton Street, just after the park.
Go one short block on Walton Street to the first stop sign. This is a 5 point intersection. Turn left at the 10 O'clock position onto Dixie Street (you'll past the BIG white mansion called "Oak House"). Go one short block and turn right first chance onto Bacon Street. 750 bacon Street is the third house on the left (white and sits up high). Park on the street. The railroad is in the white building at the end of the driveway.
From Athens:
Go south on GA 441 to Madison exit (at CSX overpass). Turn right and go into downtown Madison. You are on Main Street. Go thru the downtown square (2 signals) and continue on Main Street to Walton Street. Turn right on Walton and follow directions above.
Layout at a Glance
After 25 years of modeling in Sn3, I took the opportunity of our move to middle Georgia 2 ½ years ago to construct my first S standard gauge layout. The Sierra Northern Railroad is the result of that effort, a new railroad featuring S standard, but still retaining a bit of the Sn3 for old times sake. The central theme of the new Sierra Northern Railroad is that of a mythical crossing of California's Sierra Nevada mountains. No attempt was made to model any specific location on the new railroad, but rather to capture the general look and feel of the Southern Pacific's Donner Pass and Shasta routes.
