Directions to Talking Rock from the Atlanta:  Be wary of GPS and on-line maps, they would try to direct you across a non-existent bridge

I-575 North.  (I-575 becomes GA 515 at the Pickens County line).  At Jasper, continue on GA 515 past GA 53 (Waffle House, Kroger and Home Depot on the left).  About 1/2 mile past Home Depot, at the top of the hill, at the traffic light, turn Right onto Philadelphia Road.  Go to the "T".  Turn Right onto Talking Rock Road.  (It’s also known as Jasper’s North Main Street if you’re coming through downtown Jasper.)  Turn immediately Left onto Lumber Company Road.  (Or Right if coming through downtown Jasper.)  Go about 1/4 mile and turn Right into Arbor Hills subdivision.  Go to the "T" and turn Left.  Follow that road around to 473 Arbor Hills Rd on the left.

The EI&TCo. is a 1947-era backwoods railroad featuring logging, sawmilling, steel manufacturing, coal mining and many of the ancillary industries necessary to make this all work.  The sawmill peninsula has a newly-completed engine servicing facility, river, log dump and sawmill.  The sawmill has a footprint of 12.5” x 32” x 15” high.  It was scratchbuilt to fit the layout location.  The mill complex includes the power house, slash burner, conveyors, lumber stacks, water tanks and the small village.  The coal mine, steel mill complex, and waterfront are the next large projects.

 

My On30 Shay won 1st place at the Piedmont Division and the Southeast Region train shows in 2000; it won 2nd place at the NMRA national at San Jose with 113 points.
